Courses

Which one you want depends on whether you have ridden before — and on whether you own a motorcycle yet.

Basic RiderCourse

Where to start once you have decided to learn. Two days across a weekend or a matched weekday pair, split between classroom work and range time on a training motorcycle we supply. Covers the controls, starting and stopping, turning, shifting, swerving and emergency braking. This is New Jersey's motorcycle licence test waiver program.

Who it is for: You have never ridden, or you have ridden a little and never been taught.

Advanced / ProRider

Advanced coursework taught by expert police motorcycle officers — the slow-speed control, cornering and braking work that separates a confident rider from a licensed one. Runs under the ProRider brand.

Who it is for: You already ride and want real technique, not another orientation.

Private Lessons

One-on-one instruction, arranged directly. Motorcycle Riding Centers is the only provider in New Jersey offering private one-to-one motorcycle lessons. Useful if a group range day is not how you learn, or if there is one specific thing you want to fix.

Who it is for: You want the range and the coach to yourself.

Common questions

Do I need my own motorcycle?
Not for the beginner course — a training motorcycle is provided. Advanced courses are ridden on your own bike.
Do I need a helmet?
Yes. Riders bring their own helmet. Wear over-the-ankle boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved jacket and full-fingered gloves.
How long is the beginner course?
15 to 18 hours in total across two days, with roughly 10 to 12 of those hours spent on a motorcycle.
What about the DMV road test?
The Basic RiderCourse is New Jersey's motorcycle licence test waiver program. The specifics of what that means for your licence are handled through the school and the MVC — call us and we will walk you through it.
How do I actually register?
Pick a class on the schedule page and follow it through to the main site, where registration and payment are handled. Or call 201-787-0661.
What if a class shows as filled?
Classes do fill, particularly weekend dates in season. The schedule page marks them so you are not chasing a full class. Call and we will tell you what is genuinely open.
